The Little House in Heaven by Kathleen Watson

Eventually, Melissa has to grow up and learn to walk by faith and the ‘treasure’ she lays up in Heaven becomes a glorious reward in the end.

Review

The Little House in Heaven is aimed at the Christian market. This book would be suitable for children between 8-12 years old who want to find out more about the teachings of Jesus. Eight-year-old Melissa becomes drawn to a picture of a lighthouse on a rock hanging on the door of the white-haired woman who lives up the stairs from her, and she wants to find out more. Not only about the picture but the person who lives there – Miss Amy Light. I loved that name and liked the character of Amy Light, who takes Melissa on a journey of discovery, helping her to find out about the house built on the rocks. This is achieved through Melissa obtaining a Bible and reading some of the stories within it. There are a number of interesting characters introduced throughout, who help Melissa on her journey. At 100 pages, this book is just the right length for children to read.

This book, aimed at young readers of 8 years or more, has a simple Christian message embedded within an imaginative story that is written with just the right balance between scene setting, dealing with thoughts and feelings, and furthering the plot.  It is a long time since I was 8 years old, but I have enjoyed reading it – Evelyn Wendon. The Little House in Heaven Book Blog Tour – Reading Between The Lines

Thanks to Heather Osborne for inviting me to take part in the blog tour for her exciting new release, Orchestrating Murder. Well, I’ll let you into a secret. I love reading crime fiction, so this was one was an obvious choice for me to participate in.

Deeply disturbing

When two bodies turn up in quick succession, in the same location and with the same injuries, it is immediately obvious to the reader that this book involves a serial killer. And the killer doesn’t stop at two murders. As the body count grows and the killer moves closer to Detective Gregory Shaw, it becomes imperative that he finds and stops the killer before anyone else is murdered.

Detective Shaw has problems of his own. Fifteen years in the force has taken its toll on his marriage and his outlook on life. The real star of the show is Reynolds. A rookie cop compared to Shaw, who puts his boundless enthusiasm and energy to good use to help catch the killer.

Well orchestrated

A tense crime thriller set in Palo Alto, California. The story is told from multiple perspectives, allowing the reader to enter into the dark mind of the serial killer. It doesn’t take long for suspicion to fall on the members of a successful legal team who have an involvement with all those who have died. But, which one of them, if any, is the murderer?

The music maestro responsible for the multiple murders is accomplished, sauve, successful and violent. ‘Tchaikovsky always made him feel lighter, forgetting his troubles as he worked, conducting his own invisible orchestra.’

Cleverly Crafted

The police procedural aspects of this book seem well researched. This is highly important to me as a reader of crime fiction, and Osborne carries it off. Expect a few twists along the way. Things are not always as they seem.

Recommendation

I enjoyed this crime thriller and would highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys the crime/ thriller genres. It’s a  great read that will keep you guessing until the very end. Orchestrating Murder is hopefully the first book in a new series by Heather Osborne.
